Brixton Town Centre - Neighbourhood Policing Newsletter |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Message from the InspectorFebruary has been a month of continued engagement with our communities across Brixton, and I want to thank residents, local partners and businesses for the support and conversations we have had along the way. Our focus remains on listening to concerns, being visible in the areas that matter most to you and working together to address the issues that affect daily life. Your information, feedback and willingness to speak with officers play a vital role in shaping how we police Brixton. I am encouraged that violent crime in Brixton Town Centre continues to decrease, alongside reductions in theft from the person and robbery. We have seen an increase in shoplifting offences. This may in part be linked to increased police activity and targeted operations leading to more offences being identified and recorded. It remains vital that all incidents of shoplifting are reported, as accurate reporting allows us to build intelligence, target repeat offenders and deploy resources effectively. Thank you for your continued engagement and for working with us to keep Brixton a safe and welcoming place for everyone. Inspector Val Charles
Drugs Arrest Following Proactive CCTV Work in Brixton On 5th January, officers from Brixton Town Centre Team were reviewing CCTV footage for an unrelated matter when they spotted an individual appearing to deal drugs. Officers immediately carried out a search of the surrounding streets and located the man inside a nearby shop. He was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. Following the arrest, officers carried out a search of his home address. During the search they recovered around 200 wraps of Cocaine, a small amount of cannabis & over £1,000 in cash. Thanks to the quick work of the Town Centre Team and the follow-up investigation by CID, the suspect has now been charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, as well as possession of Class B drugs. This outcome highlights the ongoing efforts of Lambeth officers to tackle drug activity and keep Brixton town centre safe.
Quick arrest for Brixton Town Centre Robber Officers from the Brixton Town Centre Team demonstrated excellent teamwork with members of the public following reports of multiple cash‑point robberies targeting women in the area. After an initial report earlier in the week where a victim had her money snatched at a cash machine, officers carried out enquiries but no suspect was identified at the time. The following day, the team responded immediately to a second, similar robbery involving another female victim. Officers located the suspect nearby, pursued him on foot and made a swift arrest. Further checks of CCTV confirmed the individual was responsible for both robberies. The team then reviewed police systems and linked the same suspect to an additional cash‑point robbery.
Introducing our new Brixton VAWG SPOC I am pleased to introduce PC Sean Harvey as the new Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Single Point of Contact for the Brixton Windrush ward, who will be working alongside me to focus on making Brixton safer for women and girls. This appointment comes at an important time: VAWG‑related offences in the ward have reduced by 11% over the past year, reflecting the sustained efforts of our neighbourhood officers, partners and local community groups. Building on this progress, PC Harvey will play a key role in ensuring we continue to make Brixton safer. PC Harvey brings strong local knowledge, a proactive approach to safeguarding, and a clear commitment to listening to the voices of women and girls in our community. As the dedicated SPOC, he will:
